Abstract

In the necropolis of Banditaccia - Cerveteri an askos datable to the last phases of the Geometric Protodaunian and two jugs, perhaps already of the Subgeometric Daunian I, have been found. The contexts offer a more precise chronological definition of the discussed Geometric Daunian phases, but also a better outline of the diffusion and circulation of these ceramics outside the production area. This pottery could have arrived in Etruria through the Campania centers, perhaps at first Pontecagnano, for the most ancient materials (last twenty years of the 8th century BC), then the centers of internal Campania, for example Capua, for the most recent materials (first half of the 7th century). Certainly, given the intense relationships that bind Etruscan and Picene aristocracies during the Orientalizing, an arrival in Etruria through the Adriatic route cannot be excluded, since Geometric and Sub Geometric Protodaunian I ceramics are widely attested in the Picenum area.
