Rhetorical and Communication Studies: Two Worlds or One?

The article focuses on rhetorical and communication studies. The National Developmental Project on Rhetoric sponsored by the Speech Communication Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities recently called for broadening the scope of rhetorical criticism to include subjects which have not traditionally fallen within the critic's purview. The rhetoric conferences were trying to define rhetorical studies in an interdisciplinary way. So, it seems that from much of our ordinary usage communication studies ought, semantically, to include rhetorical studies and a lot of other studies of communicative acts besides.
