These organisms contain various biologically active substances, including health-promoting lipids. Supplementation may change meat fatty acid profile. Meat from pigs given marine microalgae contains higher levels of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. These substances have beneficial effects on human health. Excessive intake of fatty acids from marine microalgae increases meat susceptibility to oxidation.
