Abstract

Petro and Hernández will now face off in a runoff on June 19. On paper, the ideologically ambiguous Hernández should have the advantage, since he can appeal to Petro's own base of antiestablishment voters but also to most conservative and moderate voters who consider the ex-rebel too far left. Whereas Petro has had a long political career as a member of Congress, mayor of Bogotá, and now three-time presidential candidate, Hernández is an unknown quantity. [Extracted from the article]
