Abstract

The article discusses a 2022 study on the use of cultured trophoblast organoids from placental villi to screen the placental toxicity of 46 organophosphate flame retardants (OPFR). Results show that three of the chemicals affected cell proliferation without impairing cell survival, with 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) being detected in environmental and human samples and being linked to pregnancy complications. Also noted are possible studies on functions specific to placental cells.
