Abstract

On the one hand, the authors maintain that "a pillar of DuBoisian methodology is the taking of a subaltern standpoint....DuBois's sociology...privileged the subaltern standpoint in theorizing racialized modernity" (203). DuBois struggled all his life to dismantle the first but also to define and build the second....The question of group constitution and construction was one of DuBois's central concerns. To which DuBois replies, "the black man is a person who I must i ride "Jim Crow" in Georgia" (DuBois 2007:77, emphasis mine). : Racialized Modernity and the Global Color Line.
