Abstract

Sisyrinchium montanum is a perennial herb native to North America, introduced in Europe and considered weedy in many countries here. In Central Europe, it grows predominantly in the Eastern Carpathians in road verges, wet meadows and fens. The paper summarizes the occurrence in Slovakia within the whole of the Carpathians. The first report in Slovakia was dated back to 1931. In the western part of the country the species can be considered only a casual and a short-term one. In the eastern part, the Bukovské vrchy Mts and the eastern part of the Vihorlat Mts seem to be the centre of its naturalisation with clearly spreading along the forest roads. In the territory of Slovakia the species prefers sunny and open places, mostly the wet ones and it colonizes abandoned forest wood warehouses, forest clearings and wet meadows and fens.
