Abstract

In this study, NiFe<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript> films were deposited on the Ba<subscript>0.85</subscript>Ca<subscript>0.15</subscript>Zr<subscript>0.9</subscript>Ti<subscript>0.1</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript> (BCZT)-buffered SrTiO<subscript>3</subscript> substrate by pulsed laser deposition, and the effect of the thickness of the layer on the rearrangement of cations and magnetic property of the NiFe<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript> films was explored. All NiFe<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript> films were grown epitaxially along the c-axis orientation and exhibited a smooth surface. When the buffer layer was 30 nm thick, the proportion of Ni<superscript>2+</superscript> cations at the T<subscript>d</subscript> site in NiFe<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript> reached the maximum. Accordingly, the obtained film exhibited the highest saturation magnetization of 113 emu/cm<superscript>3</superscript>. This work demonstrates that introducing the BCZT buffer layer between the NiFe<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript> thin film and the SrTiO<subscript>3</subscript> substrate is an effective approach to tailor the magnetic properties of NiFe<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript> thin films.
