Abstract

In contemporary manufacturing environments, companies face various challenges in trying to meet customer demand in a timely manner. This paper investigates simultaneous part input sequencing and robot scheduling of flexible manufacturing systems for mass customisation. A mathematical model is formulated for this simultaneous and continuous time-based decision-making problem. A segment set-based approach is proposed to solve the problem. Numerical studies are performed by simulation and statistical analyses to evaluate the approach. The proposed approach is compared to different approaches and analysed under various conditions.
