The optical and mechanical properties of quartz glass with nanocomposite coatings based on Al-Si-N and In-Sn-O.

Abstract

The paper investigates the effect of nanocomposite coatings on centrosymmetric bending strength σ<subscript>bB</subscript> and light transmission factor in visible band of a glass specimens. The coatings on the basis of Al-Si-N and In-Sn-O systems deposited on the surface of quartz specimens (KV grade) using pulsed magnetron sputtering. The deposition of In-Sn-O coating on the glass more prominently, ∼1.6 times, increases the value of σ<subscript>bB</subscript> as compared to ∼1.3 times which is typical for Al-Si-N coating. Coatings based on In-Sn-O more effectively increased the cracking resistance of quartz glass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
