Abstract

The aim of present study was to investigate the effects of Lycium chinense Miller (LCM) stem powder on the carcass traits in White Roman geese. A total of sixty males were randomly divided into control group and 3 treatments. The percentage of 0, 1, 3, or 5% of LCM stem powder were added in daily feed, whereas three replicates (5 geese per pen) were set up in the study. The geese were fed on the jacked with full mesh floor in the non-opening house at the 3 to 12 weeks of age. Feed and water were ad libitum. At the 12<superscript>th</superscript> week of age, 2 geese were randomly selected from each pen for slaughter, then their breast meat was taken for proximate analysis. The results showed that there were no significant differences between each treatment for preslaughter liveweight, carcass weight, dressing percentage, gizzard weight and abdominal fat weight. In addition, there were no significant differences among treatments in composition analysis of breast meat. In conclusion, there were no adverse effects on the carcass traits by feeding 5% LCM stem powder in meat-type geese. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
