Abstract

B P1 b B Exploring alpha-synuclein conformations by immunohistochemistry in Multiple System Atrophy and Parkinson's Disease b M. Otero Jimenez, J. Alegre Abarrategui and V. de Paola I Imperial College London, London, UK i Synucleinopathies include neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's Disease (PD) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) characterised by the accumulation of pathological alpha-synuclein ( -syn) aggregates. Synucleinopathies differ in the extent of glial versus neuronal pathology; for instance, MSA is characterised by the presence of -syn aggregates in oligodendrocytes whereas PD mainly present -syn pathology in neurons. B P5 b B Microarray approach to identifying the role of microglia in the pathogenesis of age-associated deep-subcortical white matter lesions b T. Almansouri SP 1,2 sp , P. Heath SP 1 sp , S. Wharton SP 1 sp , F. Van Eeden SP 1 sp and J. Simpson SP 1 sp SP 1 sp I University of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK; i SP 2 sp I King Abdul-Aziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia i B Introduction: b Age-associated deep-subcortical white matter lesions (DSCL) are an independent risk factor for dementia and contain high levels of CD68+ microglia. B Conclusions: b Whilst the brainstem demonstrates a disease-independent high susceptibility to inflammation, microglial activation in COVID-19 (COVID-19 microglia encephalopathy) is specific and of importance for understanding the involvement of the CNS in this disease.
