Abstract

Amazon's Internationalization in Germany Founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994, Amazon's internationalization began in the late 1990s, with Germany being one of the first target regions (Kenney and Zysman, [36]). With its growth path from a bookseller to an international all-around retailer, Amazon was able to achieve a predominant winner-take-all position in North America as well as some European countries such as Great Britain and Germany (Kenney and Zysman, [36]); Amazon could be considered the "one platform to rule them all" (Birch, [4]). The interviewees explain that these conflict-prone labour relations are the result of Amazon coming from a different work-culture context, and that Amazon has encountered a specific labour market situation in Germany to which it is unaccustomed.
