Abstract

RETRO It is often said that our mobile phones are far more powerful than the computers used to put Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon in 1969. Although NASA could afford the most cutting-edge computer components, there is simply too much at stake. Even though it perceivably lacked power, the computer has been responsible for the bulk of the spacecraft's processing capability, guided by intricate flight software. So too is the computer on board NASA's Orion spacecraft that will, one day, send humans to Mars. [Extracted from the article]
