Abstract

Nano/ultrafine-grained (NG/UFG) structure was produced in AA2024 alloy sheets by an accumulative roll bonding (ARB) and was subsequently joined by friction stir welding (FSW). Having evaluated the welded zone microstructurally and mechanically, this study's characterization confirmed the efficient and successful binding of these sheets through applying FSW. Localized Heat generation as a consequence of the FSW process caused the different regions of the weld nugget to have divergent grain structures. The texture components in the stir zone were Cube {001}〈100〉, S {123}〈634〉, B {112}〈110〉, C {001}〈110〉, and copper {112}〈111〉. Also, the grain growth phenomena, softening, and microhardness reduction were observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
