Abstract
- The article features artist Fabiola Jean-Louis and her sculpted paper dresses in the exhibition "Before Yesterday We Could Fly" on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City starting November 2021. The handmade garments by Jean-Louis depict the transatlantic slave trade and African lives. It describes the significance of a battle dress in response to the history of the African American Seneca Village displaced in the city. It traces the academic and career background of the artist.
