Abstract

The article discusses a study conducted to review surveillance features and program development by six states of the U.S. including Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia after the enactment of state laws, to better understand neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) surveillance beyond initial case reporting. It is noted that mandated reporting helped quantify NAS incidence and inform programs and services.
