Abstract

The Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> ions-doped barium gadolinium borate glasses were synthesized by the melt-quenching technique with various Eu<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript> concentrations to investigate the physical, optical, and luminescence properties. The results showed that the density tended to be increased along with increased Eu<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript> concentration, while the molar volume decreased along with increased Eu<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript> concentration. The absorption spectra showed the characteristic absorption peaks in the visible and near-infrared regions. The emission spectra of the glasses were illustrated the highest emission intensity at 613 nm wavelength, which corresponds to the Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> transition, <superscript>5</superscript>D<subscript>0</subscript>→<superscript>7</superscript>F<subscript>2</subscript>. The CIE 1931 chromaticity investigation showed that Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> doped glasses emitted the light with a reddish-orange color. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
