Abstract

In our paper we describe possibilities for development of mathematical thinking through playing selected video games. In detail these games are Warcraft III, Machinarium, Divinity: Original Sin 2, and Cyberpunk 2077. The aim of our paper is to analyse the opportunities for development of mathematical thinking that these commercial games offer. A part of the paper concerns the theoretical background of this problem and the analysis of selected games from the point of mathematical thinking elements. For this analysis we use a qualitative approach - content analysis. In conclusion, we identified that selected games could help in the development of logical, strategical, combinatorial, and probability thinking, spatial ability, and quantitative thinking.
