Abstract
- In the present work, polycrystalline Y-type Ba<subscript>0.5</subscript>Sr<subscript>1.5</subscript>Co<subscript>2−x</subscript>Zn<subscript>x</subscript>Fe<subscript>12</subscript>O<subscript>22</subscript> (X = 0, 0.5, 1 & 2) hexa-ferrites prepared by the sol-gel auto combustion method are investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), <superscript>57</superscript>Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy (MS) and magnetization measurements. XRD data confirms the single-phase formation for x = 0 and 0.5; however, with further increase in Zn concentration secondary phases are observed. The in-field Mössbauer data measured at low temperature (5K) indicates that there is a re-distribution of Fe<superscript>3+</superscript> ions in the studied samples, with the substituted Zn<superscript>2+</superscript> preferentially going to 6C<subscript>IV</subscript>, 6C<subscript>IV ∗</subscript> sites.
