Abstract

Out of the numerous relicts of rampart fortifications identified in the Lesser Carpathians, we can reliably ascribe four, which were the object of archaeological research, to the bearers of the Čaka, Velatice, Podolí and Lusatian cultures. As can be seen by the surface finds, the hitherto little known hillfort of Starý plášť in the cadastral district of the municipality of Plavecký Mikuláš was also built in the later or late Bronze Age. A fortification rampart, entrance gate and roads leading to a source of water have been identified in the hillfort. The paper includes available information on contemporaneous hillforts in Bratislava - Devín, Marianka, Plavecké Podhradie and Prašník. The authors focused on the process and construction of the fortifications, dating the settlement, the period of construction of the fortifications as well as access to sources of water. New information on the morphology of the terrain and on the course of the fortification was provided by data from Airborne laser scanning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
