Abstract
- In the present communication, the composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oil from the leaves of Acorus macrospadiceus (Yam.) F. N. Wei & Y. K. Li from Vietnam were reported. The yield of the essential oil was 0.25 % (w/w). The main constituents of the essential oil were β-caryophyllene (31.1 %), α-selinene (12.6 %), α-asarone (12.0 %) and α-humulene (8.0 %). The essential oil displayed anti-candidal activity against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 8.67 μg/ mL. In addition, the essential oil exhibited a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against the other tested microorganisms with MIC in the range 17.33 μg/mL (Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 299212) to 100.33 μg/mL (Escherichia coli ATCC 25922). The antimicrobial activities of A. macrospadiceus are being reported for the first time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
