Abstract

This article features past presidents of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Control Systems Society in the U.S. During his presidency, Robert B. Wilcox was with the Radio Corp. of America, Burlington, Massachusetts. He published in the area of management control, optimizing work processing and communications and projecting performance. Under his leadership in 1956, the first group publication appeared. Initial society membership is estimated at 1,000. John B. Lewis graduated from Duke University in 1944 and then served two years in the U.S. Navy as an electrical officer on a cruiser in the South Pacific. In 1947 he started a career in teaching and research in control systems and computers. He received advanced degrees from the University of Tennessee and Purdue University. He also has done aircraft control work at the General Electric Co. and special-purpose computer development at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Stephen Kahne is professor of electrical engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona where he formerly served as chancellor and as speaker of the faculty. Prior to joining Embry-Riddle in 1995, he was executive director and CEO of the Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education.
