Abstract

Focuses on socio-psychological aspects of land use and related emigration and immigration issues in the U.S. Forecast by a newspaper item regarding the usage of the last of public land within next ten years; Discussion of reclamation projects; Analysis and effects of morality and life of frontiers; Discussion of the influence of the frontier on the American character; Opinion that the existence of the frontier had an effect upon the whole country all the way back to the Atlantic seaboard, and was responsible for the creation of ideals and institutions apparently remote from it; Illustration of the passing of frontier morality in the recent change of attitude as to immigration; Discussion of causes of changes in the national character; Consideration of the change from an agricultural to an industrial type of civilization, as an important cause.
