Abstract
- Presents the author's thoughts on reticence, human relations and Puritanism. Philosophy of his grandmother; Desire to live a year abroad for freedom of thought, of speech, of action; Life in France; Statement that if one relieves the human mind of subjective curiosities which may turn to morbidity then it will be free to take a normal interest and curiosity in things objective; Prudery and Puritanism are not desirable characteristics in either a human or a nation, yet it is prudery and Puritanism that have retained for people the interest in the normal and the healthful life.
