Abstract

The ambient background activity of gamma radiation was measured in the nearby village Meghavath Thanda, in the surroundings of upcoming uranium mineralized site, with active and passive methods. The estimated average absorbed dose ranging f from 1818 to 2296 µGy.y<superscript>−1</superscript> with an average of 2105 ± 142 µGy.y<superscript>−1</superscript>. The radioactive elemental analysis from the collected soil samples of the area shows that the activity of <superscript>238</superscript>U and <superscript>232</superscript>Th is higher than the global average and associated index parameters are well within the limits. The average effective dose in the study region owing to the gamma radiation is found to be 1.47 ± 0.10 mSv.y<superscript>−1</superscript>. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
