Graph On March 11 this year, we lost one of the prominent members of our underwater archaeology community: Dr. Prof. Thijs Jakob Maarleveld. The opportunity to teach maritime archaeology and to pass on what he was so passionate about finally arose in 2005 when Thijs was appointed as professor in the new postgraduate Maritime Archaeology Programme at the University of Southern Denmark in Esbjerg, Denmark. Thijs was a pioneer and became one of the figureheads of maritime archaeology and underwater cultural heritage (UCH) management in North-western Europe. [Extracted from the article]
