Abstract

In the article, the authors discuss how to strike a balance in ensuring patients' rights to publicity and protecting health care providers' rights to privacy in cases where patients or their families post blogs in the medical setting. They present the case of a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patient whose ordeal was posted by her parents on social media to raise funds for her treatment as example. Also cited is how the blog raises key questions on topics like professional reputation.
