Abstract

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. The European Union seeks to become the world leader in combating this phenomenon, setting high objectives, implementing ambitious policies and working closely with the international partners involved. This article aims to analyze the European Union's performance in the fight against climate change. Therefore, in the first part of the article, the EU targets for 2020, 2030 and 2050 will be exposed, and in the second part I will analyze the degree of achievement of the targets for the main indicators, namely greenhouse gases emissions, the share of renewable energy sources in the final energy consumption, the share of renewable energy used in the transport sector and the increase in energy efficiency.
