Abstract

Presents information regarding the Work or Fight Order of Provost Marshal General Crowder targeted against the colored people of the south U.S. Provision of the order that every able-bodied male person between the draft ages, must be engaged in some necessary employment; Amendment in selective service act to include males up to forty-five years of age; Information that Cities and towns and rural communities passed compulsory labor ordinances and by this means met with partial success in keeping the population at its former work and sometimes at pre-war low wages.
