Editor's Introduction: Limitations of the Tang-Song Transition Theory.

An introduction is presented in which the editor discusses articles within the issue on topics including the hypothesis of Naitō Konan on the Tang-Song transition theory, failure of the theory to advance the study of Tang-Song history, and the shortcomings of the theory from the political history perspective.
