Abstract

Praise of Towns and anti-Franciscan satire: a late medieval poem on Vienna The manuscript Vienna, Austrian National Library, cod. 4134 (Univ. 40), contains a hitherto unknown praise of the city of Vienna. This text, probably composed in the first half of the 15th century, is one of the few examples of the genre of laus urbis transmitted from this period. Besides, the poem can be read as a satire. Its author is an unknown cleric fiercely attacking the Franciscan friars in Vienna. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
