Abstract

Explains that natural leadership is indispensable during war. The habit of giving command and of obeying is a source of immense strength; Spontaneous leader must have some natural pre-eminence or he would not have inspired obedience; Average nature with a slight increment of power makes the representative man; Conflict between natural leadership and paternal authority; Humans can not take political or moral steps in life without becoming subject to leaders; Monarchy is as human as democracy, as religious hierarchy grows up as easily as a commercial one.
