Abstract

Presents statistics on the armed forces of Germany, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Austria, and Italy in the midst of World War I. Western front is 600 kilometers; Numerical superiority of the Allies is not sufficient to warrant a general frontal attack on a front; Need for superiority in artillery, munitions of war, generalship, and morale; British must accept the brunt of the work on the west front; No nation at war can be expected to create new units; Germans know they must make peace before their numerical inferiority begins to tell; Germany's best chance is to break Russia's offensive power.
