Abstract

Diet should contain all of the required nutrients, including vitamins and vitamin-like substances. In the case of their deficiencies in feed components, supplementation should be considered. Choline belongs to vitamin-like substances, which are required for optimal health. Choline is a precursor of betaine, acetylcholine and phospholipids that regulate many biological processes. These substances are necessary for nervous system development. Choline deficiency may lead to liver dysfunctions, associated with excessive accumulation of triglycerides. A significant percentage of dietary choline found in feed components of vegetable origin is not available for swine tissues. The aim of this paper was to present the aspects connected with choline in nutrition of sows and their progeny. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
