Abstract

Focuses on the current political and social condition of Cuba. View that a new spirit of nationalism is alive in Cuba today; Report that twenty of Cuba's 130 active sugar mills are in the hands of the workers or under-managers chosen by labor; Orientation of students and the ABC, a secret political organization, towards fascist rather than toward communist philosophy; Differences in the policy of the students and the ABC; Assurance of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt that the U.S. is doing all possible to avoid intervention in Cuba; View that the traditional hypocrisy of United States policy toward Cuba has been maintained; Opinion that a Cuban government that survives will have to depend either on the support of American capital or else on that of its own people.
