Abstract

Presents a critical analysis of the social credit proposals of Major C. H. Douglas, the English engineer and economist. Support of the social credit movement to preserve individual economic freedom and yet abolish want; Discussion of the failure of capitalism because of lack of markets; Explanation of the deficiency in buying power by the A plus B theorem where A represents money disbursed as payment to individuals in wages, salaries and dividends and B represents external costs; Advocacy of a dividend to every member of the community, the adjustment depending on the ability of the industrial machinery to deliver the goods; Belief that a just price, social credit and a national dividend policy would preserve democracy from running into fascism or socialism.
