Abstract

A new polyoxoniobate constructed by four {Nb<subscript>27</subscript>} building blocks, K<subscript>11</subscript>[Cu(en)<subscript>2</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>2</subscript>]<subscript>2</subscript>[H<subscript>29</subscript>{Cu(en)<subscript>2</subscript>}<subscript>4</subscript>{Cu<subscript>0.5</subscript>(en)<subscript>2</subscript>}<subscript>4</subscript>{Cu(en)<subscript>2</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)}<subscript>4</subscript>(OH)<subscript>4</subscript>(Nb<subscript>27</subscript>O<subscript>75</subscript>)<subscript>4</subscript>]·103H<subscript>2</subscript>O (en = ethanediamine), has been synthesized and characterized. Four {Nb<subscript>27</subscript>} inorganic blocks are linked by metal-organic components [Cu(en)<subscript>2</subscript>]<superscript>2+</superscript>, forming a tetrameric organic–inorganic hybrid. The structure is characterized by IR spectroscopy, XRD, UV–vis, EPR, single crystal X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis and elemental analysis. Furthermore, the solution behavior was investigated indicating the integrity of {Nb<subscript>27</subscript>} building block, which shows the possibility that it might be an excellent precursor for functionalization.
