- The USPSTF has made recommendations on screening for HBV infection in pregnant persons, hepatitis C virus infection in adolescents and adults, and HIV infection. April 15, 2021 Volume 103, Number 8 www.aafp.org/afp American Family Physician 495 U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Screening for Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Adolescents and Adults: Recommendation Statement Summary of Recommendation The USPSTF recommends screening for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adolescents and adults at increased risk for infection (Table 1). These include screening for HBV infection during pregnancy 8; screening for hepatitis C virus infection in adults aged 18 to 79 years 27; screening for HIV in adolescents and adults aged 15 to 65 years 28; and behavioral counseling to prevent sexually transmitted infections.
