Abstract

Through regulating the reaction solvent and temperature, two Tb-based metal–organic frameworks, ((CH<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>NH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>[Tb<subscript>9</subscript>(μ<subscript>3</subscript>-OH)<subscript>8</subscript>(μ<subscript>2</subscript>-OH)<subscript>3</subscript>(PTB)<subscript>6</subscript>]·(DMF)<subscript>14</subscript>·(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>19</subscript> (1) and ((CH<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>NH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>{[Tb<subscript>9</subscript>(μ<subscript>3</subscript>-O)<subscript>2</subscript>(μ<subscript>3</subscript>-OH)<subscript>12</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>6</subscript>][Tb<subscript>3</subscript>(μ<subscript>3</subscript>-O)(HCO<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript> (PTB)<subscript>6</subscript>]}·(DMF)<subscript>12</subscript>·(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>7</subscript> (2) (H<subscript>3</subscript>PTB = pyridine-2,4,6-tribenzoic acid), have been synthesized. Structural analysis showed that the cluster node of 1 is a Tb<subscript>9</subscript> cluster, while 2 contains two different nodes of a Tb<subscript>3</subscript> cluster and a Tb<subscript>9</subscript> cluster, which leads to their different pore structures and may potentially separate C<subscript>2</subscript>H<subscript>2</subscript>/CO<subscript>2</subscript>. Gas adsorption demonstrates that both MOFs can separate C<subscript>2</subscript>H<subscript>2</subscript> and CO<subscript>2</subscript>, but 2 has a more optimized pore environment than 1 and can exhibit better selective separation of C<subscript>2</subscript>H<subscript>2</subscript>/CO<subscript>2</subscript>.
