Abstract

An alternative perspective on child-animal connectivity emerges in the last of the substantial chapters (Chapter 6), in which Taylor and Pacini-Ketchabaw discuss the symbiotic relationships between children and dogs in indigenous communities. The concomitant "ecology of obligations" unsettles the utilitarian perspective to human-animal relations, which still dominates the majority of studies on children and animals in the West. This is the landscape from which I The Common Worlds of Children and Animals: Relational Ethics for Entangled Lives i by Affrica Taylor and Veronica Pacini-Ketchabaw emerges.
