Abstract

The inverse Gaussian distribution is one of the important continuous distributions and it has wide applications in many fields, which attracted the attention of many researchers to search for a good estimator for the parameters of this distribution. Therefore, in this study we examined the adoption of the Pitman method to find an estimator for the scale parameter of inverse Gaussian distribution along with other estimation methods such as the maximum likelihood method and Bayes method based on the gamma prior distribution. Simulation experiments were used to check the performance of the estimators based on the mean square error as a comparison criterion. The results showed that the Pitman estimator performed well in estimating the scale parameter in the inverse Gaussian distribution compared to other estimators in most of the simulated cases.
