Abstract

In a world of globalization, characterized mainly by openness, in which internal and external aspects of security are congruent, European leaders believe that the evolution of international environment has inevitably led to an increase of dependence, as well as vulnerabilities such as transports, resources, information between European Union member states and also between non-European Union member states. The competition between the states for power and for natural resources prevents them to cooperate, actually amplifying the insecurity worldwide and the process of development. For strengthening European Union's position as an economic and political actor, and to keep this position in the future, European leaders must adopt a coherent foreign and security policy that will guarantee the Union's borders security on the one hand and its internal cohesion on the other hand. Considering these aspects, The European Union needs such a policy, because only by creating efficient mechanisms and structures, European security can be achieved. Starting for these premises, these paper seek to highlight the EU's vision on international security. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
