Ernst von Dohnányi's Hungarian years, including the musicological examination of his work with the philharmonic, can be considered to be the current task of Dohnányi research. So far we know very little about the Dohnányi era of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, the long-standing Philharmonic Society, about Dohnányi as a conductor who gained an international reputation, primarily as a pianist and composer, and the concert tours outside Hungary of the orchestra that represented Horthy-Hungary. This paper examines the background of these concerts held outside the country, especially the significance of their cultural policy and the content of their programmes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
