Abstract

Flexible ring laser was fabricated by dispersing fluorescent dye molecules in a silicone rubber ring. Being excited by a green laser pulse, the ring exhibited a stimulated emission in a whispering gallery (WG) mode. The emission wavelength shifted to a shorter wavelength as the ring was expanded by pegging a needle tip. A torus mode emission was also measured by spitting a ring with a glass fiber (cladding diameter: 1 mm) for inducing a mode coupling between the ring and fiber. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
