Abstract

An otherwise well 42-year-old male presented to the emergency department by ambulance with an impalement injury to the right side of the neck by a 5-cm diameter and 27-cm length tree branch following a motor bike accident. A subsequent computed tomography scan of the head, neck and chest with contrast demonstrated that the foreign body was directly threatening the aortic arch, right and left common carotid arteries and right internal jugular vein.
