The article focuses on meaning of deviation in the early modern evolution of knowledge management systems and fields of sociology of knowledge and social memory in particular, generating additional stimuli. It mentions delicate points and also to suggest a potential response to the question of why the history of note-taking and excerpting systems continues to draw so much interest. It also mentions historical sources are interrogated from the perspective of social evolution theory.
