Abstract

Xanthine oxidase (XO) acts at the end of a catabolic sequence of purine nucleotide metabolism in humans and a few other uricotelic species. The EtOAc layer showed strong xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity (~99% XO inhibition). Fraction 9 (18% XO inhibition) was purified by prep. TLC (CH SB 2 sb Cl SB 2 sb -MeOH, 12:1) to give I p i -hydroxybenzoic acid ( B 3 b ) (3.6 mg) and gallic acid 4-methyl ether ( B 4 b ) (2.5 mg). [Extracted from the article]
