Abstract

A novel mixed-anion NLO crystal, namely, Bi<subscript>4</subscript>O(I<subscript>3</subscript>O<subscript>10</subscript>)(IO<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>(SeO<subscript>4</subscript>), containing a brand-new "pinwheel-like" I<subscript>3</subscript>O<subscript>10</subscript><superscript>5−</superscript> polyiodate anion group was constructed from the trimeric condensation of IO<subscript>4</subscript><superscript>3−</superscript> monomers. Bi<subscript>4</subscript>O(I<subscript>3</subscript>O<subscript>10</subscript>)(IO<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>(SeO<subscript>4</subscript>) exhibits a complex 3D topological structure and gives a moderate second harmonic generation (SHG) signal about 1.1 times that of KH<subscript>2</subscript>PO<subscript>4</subscript> (KDP).
