Abstract
- I am delighted to have been presented with this opportunity to provide some reflections on my time as past editor of Accounting and Business Research (ABR) as part of the conference being organised to mark the 50th year anniversary of the founding of the journal. I am also a little apprehensive. When I retired in 2018, I scrapped all the files I had retained relating to my time as an editor on the grounds that I was short of space. I hadn't looked at them for years and deemed it unlikely I would ever have reason to do so in the future. Perhaps I should have followed the example of the writer Clive James and called these reflections my unreliable memoirs (James 1981). The comments that follow are inevitably based heavily on things I remember rather than written records. Unfortunately, neurologists tell us that when we recall things, we reshape them to meet the needs of the moment, and in doing so subtly alter our memories. Where possible, I have tried to cross-check the accuracy of my recollections - no doubt with mixed success. The reader is warned!. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
